Recycling Artificial Grass: What to Do With Offcuts
One of the most useful things about artificial grass is just how easy it is to shape it. Whether you’ve got an awkwardly-shaped garden or there is somewhere specific indoors that you would like to lay it, all you have to do is cut it to your desired shape and you’re ready to go. In this manner, it’s much more workable than regular turf – and you don’t have to worry about the mess that comes with it.
Of course, given that no artificial grass sample is going to map perfectly onto any space, there will still be some offcuts that you’ll have to contend with. That’s no big deal though, as today we’re going to share some creative ways that you can upcycle those offcuts for the benefit of both your home and the planet.
What better surface to use for a welcome mat than high-quality artificial grass? The dense pile will work wonders when it comes to scraping dirt and mud off your shoes, and even better, it can be cleaned very easily with just a quick spray from a hosepipe.
I think it’s safe to say that we’re all a bit bored of brown door mats now anyway. Sure, they’re the same colour as the mud they will eventually collect, which is useful, but green is a lot more exciting and, well, welcoming.
This might not seem like the most obvious way to use unwanted bits of artificial grass, but hear us out.
Drawer dividers that help separate cutlery are normally a bit hit and miss, especially considering that they probably weren’t designed for your cutlery specifically. So here’s our suggestion: an artificial grass drawer liner. It gives your cutlery a place to sit where it won’t get scratched or slide around at the bottom of your drawer, and you can arrange the cutlery however you like, free from the constraints of any drawer divider. On top of that, we think that it would give your drawer a pretty interesting look too!
Bird feeder base
Here’s a suggestion: a bird feeder base. Given that bird feeders are often wood all over, why not lay some artificial grass down on the base and give your feathered friends a soft space to do their snacking.
If you wanted to take the idea further and build a space for birds to build a nest, artificial grass would be the perfect base. This is because the grass itself would be a sturdy support system for twigs, leaves and mud, making the process that much easier for them.
Christmas tree matt
Given that Christmas is edging closer, we thought it would be wrong not to provide a Christmas-related suggestion.
Artificial grass can be a great mat to lay under your Christmas tree to keep that green theme going. It also gives you a designated space to put the presents too. Luckily, this won’t require too much measuring, just cut yourself a square roughly the width of the tree itself and then place the stand on top. Perfect!
