3. Sir Lowry’s Pass

 

Sir Lowry’s Pass is a coastal drive, and picture perfect photo opportunity. It’s more of a ‘pit stop’ picnic, rather than a long indulgent afternoon. The mountain pass on the N2 national road crosses the Hottentots-Holland mountain range between Somerset West and the Elgin valley. A railway line also crosses the mountain range at this point. There is a viewpoint at the summit, which is used as a paragliding launch point, and access to the Steenbras Dam.
